CARNARVON GORGE GREAT WALK - Four babes and a bloke go bush

Four babes and a bloke go bush - Paula, Nicole, Debbie, Anne & David

It’s early August. It’s both much hotter, and much colder, than we anticipate. We fill up with roast dinner at the Takaraka Bush Camp, and the next morning we head off on the 100km, 6-day, 5-night Carnarvon Great Walk.

Highlights from our talk will include wandering minstrels, gorge walls closing in, frozen water bottles and melted socks. We’ll tell you about the day of the Track Angel; the day with only one steep hill; and the day that hiking 15km carrying a 15kg pack felt like a stroll in the park. We’ll recount the day of UP - stupid scramble up, slightly better steps up, some gradual up, then more stupid up on broken rock with the threat of uncontrolled down if you slipped. And finally, we’ll tell you about the day we waited for the hard bit that never came.

We’ll show you photos of the Moss Garden, Amphitheatre, Art Gallery, Cathedral Cave and Wards Canyon. You will experience the grandeur, the magnificence and the sheer height of the gorge. As well as seeing charred trees, wild grasses and purple flowers carpeting the surrounds, you will see photos of vistas. So many awe-inspiring vistas!

And we’ll finish up by bringing along some of our gear. We’ll each tell you about the one item that we were most grateful to have on this incredible thru-hike at Carnarvon Gorge.

Where/Time:
7pm - Headland Buderim Croquet Club, Syd Lingard Drive, Buderim.

Drive past the Headland Bowls Club and a short distance up the road on the right is the Croquet Club.

LARES TREK, PERU, SOUTH AMERICA WITH SPIRIT OF PERU

Inspired by her recent trip taking a group to Peru, Karen Tetther from 'Spirit o Peru'  is excited to share her experiences and adventures with you.  In particular Karen will be chatting about the Lares Trek, a lesser known trek which combines amazing mountain scenery with glacial lagoons.  What makes this hike unique is the direct connection with the traditional

Andean people who enjoy sharing their lifestyle and culture.

Travelling with local guides through Andes made this a very magical experience, and also participating in a traditional 'Pachamama Ceremony'  with an authentic Shaman was an unforgetable moment.  Exploring hidden places off the beaten track was also one of the advantage of travelling with a local.

So mark the date in your diary Tuesday 13th February and come along for a fun night with slide show etc included!
